Pantone Color Names

If you are unfamiliar with Pantone colors, they are essentially a matching system that provides an universal representation of color across media and materials. They are used for manufacturers, designers and printers to ensure consistent color reproduction.

Apart from an unique identifier, every color is described with a one or two word “color name”. While some of them are very unique e.g. Emerald, others are highly ambiguous given only the name. For example Satellite.

You know, when I think about satellites something like this comes to my mind:

So there is a whole range of colors one could associate with a satellite (I was initially going for some dark blue from the solar array).

While going through the list of names, I was wondering how well my knowledge of colors extrapolates to the rest of the world. What colors might possibly be affected by cultural, geographical or perceptual factors?

Game Time

Simple as that: Create a game, see a large number of people play it, do the math.

The game rules are simple. You face a Pantone color name and are asked to set the color slider to the pantone color (well, its RGB representation to be precise). The score in the end is derived by the Euclidean distance in the CIELAB color space.
